Abstract. The article considers the current state of research in the field of asphalt concrete durability and the main approaches to its improvement. It is shown that the durability of pavement layers is determined by the combined influence of mixture structure, properties of mineral materials, characteristics of the bituminous binder, technological factors, and service conditions. The paper summarizes the approaches associated with the rational selection of aggregate gradation and pore structure parameters, modification of asphalt concrete mixtures with various additives, and the development of technologies aimed at slowing down material degradation and partially restoring its structure during service. It is established that the most effective improvement in asphalt concrete durability is achieved through a comprehensive combination of rational mixture design, directed control of binder properties, and consideration of operational impacts on pavement.
