Abstract. In the general formulation, the problem of deformation of shell structures (in the form of differential equations or a functional of the total deformation energy) does not have an exact solution. To assess the stress-strain state, it is necessary to use approximate calculation methods. In engineering practice, numerical methods, in particular the finite element method, are traditionally used for these purposes. In scientific research, analytical methods can also be used, which have some advantages over numerical ones. However, the use of both approximate and analytical methods is possible only if certain requirements are met. The article discusses the problems arising when using analytical methods to assess the stress-strain state of shell structures.
Keywords: shell structures, stress-strain state, approximate methods, analytical methods, convergence of methods
