Abstract. The article discusses the issues of designing buildings of educational institutions with a capacity of more than 1,500 seats. In recent years, in the process of urbanization and increasing population density, giant schools for 1,500, 2,000, and even 3,000 people have been increasingly being built in cities. At the same time, well-known design approaches have been developed and tested for buildings and blocks with up to 1,400 seats and do not correspond to the new scale of educational facilities. The design of extra-large facilities of educational institutions cannot be carried out using the same techniques and methods as buildings of a well-established size. What is required is not an adjustment of individual provisions and elements, but a rethinking of approaches to the spatial and functional and technological organization of such school complexes. Incorrect design decisions affect the health, physical and mental state of students and staff, which requires research on these facilities in order to change design approaches.
Keywords: еducational buildings, increased capacity, space organization, internal pathways, school-sized block
