Abstract. The efficient use of wood in the construction industry encompasses a wide range of design developments and scientific research aimed at addressing the inconsistencies between the current system of utilizing the potential of wood resources and the interests of the state. In this area, this article presents the results of the authors' work, which aimed to implement a set of measures to achieve global scientific and technological leadership for the Russian Federation in the field of rational use of wood resources, the production of competitive, environmentally friendly, and energy-efficient building materials and structures, as well as buildings and structures for various purposes based on them. The article presents key research areas for achieving the stated strategic goal in the areas of forestry and technical wood science, sustainable wood processing technologies, and the development of new materials and building structures. It demonstrates that improving the technical and economic performance and operational reliability of wood-based buildings and structures is only possible with a systematic approach to its use in construction. The need for comprehensive waste-free wood processing, which ensures the sustainable use of forest wood resources, carbon neutrality and carbon sequestration, and the development of related industries, is highlighted. Problematic issues and promising research areas in the area of efficient wood use in construction are discussed.
Keywords: wood, timber industry complex, wooden structures, environmentally friendly and energy-efficient materials, development and research projects, operational reliability
