Abstract. The urban trends of modern urban construction are analyzed. The need for the construction of underground passages is indicated. The methodology and nuances of the technology of construction by open and closed methods are described, indicating their advantages and disadvantages. It is noted that a particularly important consequence of the construction of underpasses in conditions of dense urban development are additional uneven deformations of the surrounding soil mass, which, in turn, affect nearby communications, buildings and structures. The descriptions are given, using the example of foreign publications, of techniques and technologies for the construction of underground passages in an open manner, mining under the protection of an array of soil with artificial reinforcement, using a screen of metal pipes, punching reinforced concrete pre-fabricated building structures with a knife metal section, punching prefabricated pre-fabricated reinforced concrete structures using a head machine similar to a tunnel-boring mechanized complex (with a closed face and a ground loader). The technical characteristics of the machines used, the dimensions of building structures, additional precipitation of the soil surface and their impact on the surrounding buildings are described. The types and types of knife sections of such machines are also described, and the experience of their use is indicated. It is stated that the technology of building underpasses has recently undergone significant changes in the direction of increasing mechanization and reducing the impact on additional deformations of the surrounding soil mass from the new construction of underpasses. The possibility of modern construction of rectangular underpasses using punching technology and a head-mounted mechanized machine is noted, which makes it possible to optimize the operation of the transition.
