Abstract. The influence of through cuts on the buckling of shallow shells of double curvature, hinged-motionlessly fixed along the contour and made of orthotropic materials is considered. To describe the process of shell deformation, a mathematical model of the Timoshenko - Reissner type is used, which considers geometric nonlinearity, transverse shears and orthotropy of the material. The discrete method of V. V. Karpov is used to consider the cuts: the location of the cuts is specified by unit columnar functions. The mathematical model is presented as a difference of functionals of the total potential energy of deformation of the shell skin and the areas of the cuts. Using the Ritz method, the problem of finding the minimum of the difference of the functionals is reduced to solving a system of nonlinear algebraic equations using the Newton method. Based on the results of computational experiments, it was found that for the considered structures, when the shell volume is reduced by 4% by cuts, the critical force, as a rule, decreases by 12 - 27%.
