Abstract. The nonlinear deformation model, deformation theory of plasticity and theories of plastic flow are evaluated, taking into account the accepted assumptions for use in the calculation of pinched reinforced concrete beams, taking into account physical nonlinearity and normal cracks based on the rod analogy. The analysis of the effect of redistribution of bending moments from the supporting parts of reinforced concrete beams to the span ones is performed, the conditionality of the accepted terminology and inconsistency with the real bending mechanism of reinforced concrete beams with normal cracks are substantiated. It is concluded that it is necessary to develop a new method for calculating the bending of reinforced concrete beams with normal cracks, which will eliminate the disadvantages indicated in the article and combine the advantages of all known calculation methods for permissible stresses and limiting forces, the diagram method and the limit equilibrium method.
Keywords: pinched reinforced concrete beam, nonlinear deformation model, flat bending, physical nonlinearity, redistribution of bending moments
