Abstract. The object of the study was the strength and deformation characteristics of the masonry of the front layer of the outer walls for tensile strength in a connected (vertical) section, reinforced in horizontal joints with grids of polymer composite materials and steel, as well as individual fiberglass rods. The paper shows that the reinforcement of masonry significantly increased its bearing capacity and crack resistance, which is especially important for the front layers of exterior walls. The main types of destruction of reinforced and non-reinforced masonry are given, criteria for the onset of the limiting state of masonry, including at the time of the formation of the first cracks, are formulated. The coefficients of the working conditions of various types of grids in horizontal mortar joints under tension over a bandaged section are obtained. The developed design requirements for reinforcing masonry working in tension along horizontal mortar joints are used in correcting the relevant codes of rules.
