Abstract. The article presents the results of the analysis of experimental studies of the stress-strain state of reinforced concrete beams at the stage of load-bearing capacity reduction, showing the presence of reserves in strength and deformability. The work was carried out in order to clarify the criteria of a special limit state for bendable reinforced concrete elements. A description of the experimental unit is presented. Principal approaches for determining complete (including stages of concrete softening of the compressed zone) "moment-deflection" diagrams are considered, as well as approaches to determining stresses in the section of a bent reinforced concrete element at all stages of deformation. For this purpose, technical means have been developed to measure deformations in the section of a reinforced concrete element during its destruction. Experimental data have been obtained to assess the complete deformability of bendable reinforced concrete elements depending on the reinforcement and strength of the concrete.
