Abstrct. To identify characteristic defects in reinforced concrete structures, as well as eliminating the causes of their occurrence, archival materials of Central Scientific Research and Project Experimental Institute of Industrial Buildings and Structures were processed for the inspection of buildings and structures located in areas differing in the intensity of loads and impacts affecting the formation and development of defects. The database included information on the results of surveys of many operated buildings and structures using reinforced concrete structures. Based on the results of the analysis, the dependences of changes in the technical condition of buildings and structures were established, and distributions of the average number of defects in reinforced concrete structures were obtained depending on the service life of the buildings. The period of examination recommended by the state standard is set to be the same for both visual and detailed instrumental examination (5 and 10 years). As the results of the study have shown, it is advisable to increase the frequency of conducting a detailed instrumental survey of buildings and structures up to 20 years.
