Abstract. Vertical steel tanks are currently widely used at enterprises of the chemical and petrochemical industries in various regions of Russia and abroad. The article analyzes the features that must be taken into account when designing these hazardous production facilities. Despite the fact that in construction practice, the existing calculation methods have been used for quite a long time in the design of these structures, a number of issues arise that require clarification, and the methods of their calculations require further development. The analysis of the existing methods of calculation of vertical steel tanks for overturning with the use of calculation models provided by domestic design standards, taking into account the effects of the dynamic behavior of their structures, is given. It is shown that the wind load largely depends on the speed and gustiness of the wind, the aerodynamic coefficients of the shape, size and location of the reservoir being designed, the surrounding terrain and the presence of obstacles that form air flows. It is noted that the current regulatory documents explicitly lack a methodology for calculating vertical steel tanks for stability against capsizing under the action of a wind load. his directly affects the reliability and trouble-free operation of these structures, and also complicates the search for optimal design solutions.
Keywords: vertical steel tanks, thin-walled shells of rotation, wind load, capsizing, anchoring
