Abstract. The article considers examples of the application of nonlinear dynamic calculation methods in the design of buildings and structures in seismic areas. The features of the nonlinear operation of structures with a braced frame, a complete frame frame and a cross-wall structural scheme are described. As the results of the work, isofields of the level of damage accumulation in concrete, destruction patterns and isofields of stress intensity in reinforcement are presented. Examples of assessing the seismic resistance of structures of buildings of different storeys, taking into account the malleability of the base, are given. The main results of calculations for seismic impacts of the "Sirius" educational center in Sochi and the airport complex in Vladikavkaz are presented, as well as an assessment of the regulatory coefficient taking into account the permissible damage to buildings and structures is made. It is concluded that there is a certain shortage of seismic resistance of multi-storey reinforced concrete buildings of some structural schemes designed according to current standards.
