Abstract. The paper presents a model of the formation of additional pore space in sulfur asphalt concretes, resulting from the crystallization of sulfur. The process of formation of additional open porosity is random: the formation of a channel through which a liquid can move depends not only on the probability of contact of growing sulfur crystals, but also on the intersection of the formed channels, which ensures the formation of a single pore space. This process also increases the permeability of such materials, which is an obvious reason for their low resistance in liquid media. The obtained experimental data confirm the adequacy of the developed model. Thus, experimental data on the water saturation of sulfur asphalt concretes indicate that this value depends on the sulfur content and in the time interval studied can reach values of 2.5% (with a sulfur content of 40%). Under other equal test conditions, the open porosity of the control composition is equal to 1.25%.
