Abstract. The complex of control methods of the preparation of an earth foundation on soft water-saturated clay soils with the use of modern geotechnical equipment is presented. The study was conducted at one of the sites of the Oktyabrskiy island of the city of Kaliningrad after the completion of the project period of consolidation. As a technology that accelerates the compaction of soft water-saturated clay soils, the project proposed the use of geo-synthetic vertical drains with a sand counterweight of about six meters thick. Both consolidated clay soils, and filled sandy soils used as counterweight and the future foundation of structures were subjects to control. Comparative analysis of strength and deformation characteristics of soft clay soils before and after compaction was held. The basic characteristics of the sand fill formed by the method of dumping without compaction were determined six months before carrying out the research. Estimation of current parameters of the compaction in the thickness of the soft water-saturated clay soil at various depths with determining their degree of consolidation was carried out. The paper considers the problem of decompression of the lower part of the sand fill during the project period of consolidation, which may adversely affect the bearing capacity both of future slightly deepened structures and underground utilities.
