Abstract. The architect dealing with spatial shell structures chooses usually the surfaces which are not defined by analytical equations. It is more difficult to use the simple well known surface in the design, for example conic one, and to create architectural masterpiece on its base that later will become a symbol of the street or city. The article considers the structures of classical conic forms. There are photos and brief descriptions of landmark spatial structures in the form of the whole or truncated conic surfaces in the article. It is shown that at present only prominent architects work with such spatial forms. It is noted in the review that in the beginning of the XX century, approximate methods of calculation of conic thin shells were used, then spread more accurate methods of linear calculation on strength, stability and dynamics, finally the methods of non-linear calculation were proposed.
Key words: cone, truncated cone, conic surface, cone shell, cone roof, architecture of small forms, strength, stability. - REFERENCES
